Honestly, I read this book because my husband wrote it but, it turns out, it's really quite good! Though targeted at teens (especially the dreaded "reluctant reader") and adults, even our kindergartner liked it.
I think the hook here is that it truly is a 'tale' - full of travel and the mystery of foreign places (like Detroit!) - and the inevitable self-discovery that goes along with traveling. Aynil's adventures resonate with tweens and teens who are on their own voyage of self-discovery every day; and the fact that he happens to be a fairy makes him an easy-to-relate-to "everyman" ("everyfairy"?).
I'm eager to see how Paul carries his themes through his next book - written from a female's perspective. I guess I'll be the first to know - lucky me!
